Eastern medicine is thousands of years old and refers to a range of medicinal practices that originated throughout Asia. Though some might consider it old fashion as it has changed very little over the years, eastern medicine continues to yield consistent results. Eastern medicines offer a holistic approach to your health and include practices such as acupuncture to treat various health issues.
While most western medicine methods focus on removing symptoms and using the latest technology to resolve your ailments, eastern medical medicine doesn’t focus on science. Instead, practitioners will usually factor in mind, spirit, and body into the healing processes.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that involves the careful insertion of hair-thin needles into certain pressure points of your body. It is proven effective in relieving the symptoms associated with tinnitus. By inserting the needles into these pressure points, the body’s nervous and immune system is stimulated to promote healing and restore proper function to the body.
How Effective Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is widely accepted among the medical community and for over 20 years research has shown that acupuncture is an effective pain relief treatment option, for both acute and chronic pain. Commonly treated areas and conditions include pain, injury, asthma, repetitive strain, osteoarthritis, migraines, tendonitis, and more.
Is Acupuncture Right for You?
Patients should always consult with their doctor before deciding to use acupuncture. Choosing acupuncture is a personal decision. It can be ideal for patients struggling with chronic conditions or pain that are not responsive to other forms of care. It can be used to complement western medicine.
Preparing for Treatment
Depending on the condition being treated, treatment may take between 30 to 60 minutes.
During treatment, a certified acupuncturist will insert ultra-fine, sterilized needles into the skin and underlying tissues at specific locations known as acupoints. Acupoints are typically areas with free nerve endings and trigger the nervous system to respond when stimulated. The stimulation of acupoints by needles can be accomplished through rotation, weak electrical currents, or heat. The stimulation prompts the body to heal and restore normal function to the muscle, joints, and other bodily systems within the area.
It may take several sessions before significant results appear.
Minimal discomfort may be felt as the needle is inserted into the body, followed by a heavy or dull sensation as the needle is applied to the pressure point, but patients should not feel any pain.
