Las Vegas Acupuncture as Treatment for Foot Pain & Plantar Fasciitis
Foot pain can quite literally stop you in your tracks. Chronic pain in this sensitive, complex part of the body can make running, jumping, dancing, walking or even just standing in place a challenge. Many forms of foot pain, including the disabling condition known as plantar fasciitis, are related to inflammation of the tough tissues that support the foot’s arches. But whatever the cause of your pain, you’re probably seeking the safest, most effective relief possible. Our acupuncturist at Lok Acupuncture Clinic, Dr. Peter Lok, can provide that relief.
When you think about how complex the foot is and how it must combine extreme strength with flexibility in order to bear a person’s weight, it’s easy to see why foot pain is such a common phenomenon. The feet help keep the body in balance by supporting your weight as evenly as possible, and to do this they rely on constant support in the three major arches. This support comes from muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia — any of which can suffer strain or injury. These problems may take the form of Achilles tendonitis (at the heel), metatarsalgia (in the “ball” of the foot”), posterior tibial tendonitis (along the inside of the foot) and plantar fasciitis. The latter is the most common kind of chronic foot strain, afflicting the plantar fascia that supports the area between the ball of the foot and the heel. You probably have plantar fasciitis if your pain seems worse early in the morning, right after you get out of bed.
Natural Pain Relief from Dr. Peter Lok in Las Vegas
Dr. Peter Lok can deal with a wide range of foot problems through the ancient healing techniques of acupuncture. First he will perform a careful examination to determine exactly which tendons or other tissues are injured or inflamed. Palpation of the foot can reveal the exact trouble spot — an important consideration for differentiating between, say, plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, both of which cause heel pain.
Once we have an accurate diagnosis of your condition, we can apply the proper time-tested treatment protocols to relieve the pain and encourage healing. The insertion of needles does not exclusively focus on the foot itself. In the case of plantar fasciitis, for example, we may actually insert needles at a specific point on the palm of the opposite hand, or on the calf muscle of the affected limb. Dr. Peter Lok then moves on to address local acupuncture points directly related to the plantar fascia, such as the Shimian M-LE-5 and medial Shimian points on the foot. Moxibustion may also be prescribed alongside (or even in place of) needle insertion.
