Vertigo is the sudden sensation that the body or head is spinning. Contemporary medicine considers vertigo to be caused by either a disturbance in either the balance organs of the inner ear or parts of the brain or sensory nerve pathways. Everyone experiences vertigo differently. Some people only experience symptoms when they are seated or lying down, while others may experience symptoms while standing or walking. Regardless of your symptom severity, any vertigo experience can be incredibly disorienting and adversely impact your quality of life. Las Vegas Acupuncturist Dr. Lok understands these frustrations and has dedicated more than 40 years to helping patients just like you with acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
From a medical standpoint, vertigo is caused by damage or interference to the vestibular system inside the inner ear, which houses the sensors that control our sense of balance. Damage or interference to the vestibular system can cause milder symptoms such as dizziness and lightheadedness or more serious symptoms like fainting.
There are three types of vertigo:
The causes of vertigo are complex and vary among patients. For example, two different patients may have similar symptoms but very different causes. Common causes include chronic illness, traumatic injury, emotional stress and natural aging, which may impact our sense of balance. Dr. Lok works closely with each patient to understand the complex causes underpinning their vertigo and design a treatment plan to address these causes.
Traditional acupuncture and electro-acupuncture treatments can provide immediate symptom improvement. For complex cases, Dr. Lok finds that the best treatment outcomes are achieved through personalized care that integrates acupuncture treatment with complementary therapies. In addition to acupuncture, Dr. Lok may design treatments plans that include one or more of the following therapies:
A vertigo diagnosis can feel scary and frustrating. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed or worry that there is no “solution” to your condition. Traditional Chinese Medicine can help. Dr. Lok has been treating Nevada residents with TCM protocol for more than 40 years from his Las Vegas wellness center. His unique approach to care relieves symptoms related to vertigo by addressing the root imbalances in the body triggering episodes of vertigo. Acupuncture and other TCM protocols can help bring balance back to the body. Dr. Lok’s goal is to not only reduce or eliminate the occurrence of vertigo episodes but also to support whole body health from within.
